Getting Healthy - The Beginning 02.01.14 Official Start Date

By Mark

And we're off.... We have completed our official weigh in and measurements on Saturday, February 01. Both Tara and I are following Phase One of the Adkin's Low Carb Nutritional Plan until we reach within 15 pounds of our goal weight. We try to eat four times a day plus two snack times. We allow ourselves between 20 - 25 net carbs per day. Phase One allows our body metabolism to reverse the trend of storing bad carbs as body fat into burning this stored fat. Results after one week: Tara has lost a fantastic 12 pounds... I've lost 9 pounds... Tara has worked out three times a week at Fitness one. I've yet to start working out. I'm not working out or two reasons; 1.) I have not set the time aside because my extra time available has been working on improving our finances and 2.) I am expecting my weight lose to diminish at some point in the next two to three months. I plan on restarting the fat burning with exercise. By the time we reach Phase Four, we should have changed our eating habits to only consume the net carbs to maintain our goal weight range which will be within 5 pound average of our goal weight. This will be a life time commitment !!!

Chasing The Dream - What's the Plan?

It's been two years since our last post...terrible! Our 2014 commitment to this blog is to post every month. We have a new Nikon Camera and a GoPro 4 Black that we will be experimenting with, including how to post pictures and videos. We have a firm date of untying the lines, January 01, 2018. Prior to that we will be updating this blog with projects, the financials and our commitment to getting healthy.

Let's get caught up on a few things.

S/V Soaring Eagle: she is currently moored at Marina Jack's Mooring field in Sarasota, Florida. We live on the boat with our 100 pound Yellow Labrador, "Lady". We have a few projects and upgrades that we will be sharing with you as we work our way through them.

Mark: I am currently employed as a Commodity Relocation Specialist ( truck driver). I run a dedicated route from Tampa, FL to Kansas City, MO to Sterling, IL to Green Bay, WI to Tampa, Fl. I leave Saturday morning and return to the boat Thursday morning. Shake, stir and do it all over again, 50 times a year! Thus, I do not have a lot of time for projects. That's where my wonderful wife comes in.... Because of this career choice, including all the bad habits that go with it, poor diet, long work days, very little sleep, no exercise, too much Poker Rooms, I'm out of shape and overweight! Oh yeah, the Poker Rooms, that's how we've been financing some of the equipment for upgrades. It's also in the plans on contributing to the cruising kitty!

Tara: I am a CNA  working at Riverfront Nursing and Rehab for the last 5 1/2 years or so. I'm the one on the boat all week. I've become  a jack of all trades and the master of none. As the project person, I run errands through the week,  gathering supplies and try to keep everything running and organized, which is impossible with projects unfinished until my husband returns.
